Experimental and Production Kits
Entopath's Larval Express® is ideal for both the first time user and the experienced customer. The Larval Express® contains30, 60, 0r 120 infection-ready larvae housed in containment cups with food, instruments for infection, and full instructions for their use. All kits are shipped by overnight package service to arrive mid-morning the next day. The customer infects the larvae upon arrival and harvests protein 2 to 3 days later depending on the route and dose of viral inoculum. All kits are shipped under U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service authorization and can only be shipped to 46 of the 48 contiguous states within the United States. Foreign customers may use Entopath's expression service.
Descriptions of Entopath's Larval Products
All of our insect-containing kits are comprised of rearing units or containment cups. Each containment cup contains sufficient food for rearing 10 larvae for the duration of protein expression. (Twelve larvae are shipped with each cup to ensure that 10 good larvae survive the shipping and infection processes.) The 30-larvae, 60-larvae, and 120-larvae kits contain 3, 6, and 12 containment cups respectively. In all kits the insects are staged to arrive as early 5th instar larvae weighing 80-120 mg each. Each cup contains sufficient food to grow 10 larvae to full size (about 300-450 mg each). Each kit contains a water reservoir and wick system to provide a moist environment for the insects so the kits may be incubated in an non-humidified incubator. The Larval Express® Kits also contain 6 disposable syringes, a syringe plunger modified with a 5-microliter screw stop limit, blue dye to aid in larval injections, and full instructions. Entopath also offers a protein expression service where we inoculate the cabbage looper larvae with the customer's vector and return frozen larvae or larval homogenate.
